Environmental engineering is a branch of engineering which focus on providing sustainable solutions for the betterment of environment. Its primary aim is to protect, restore and improve terrestrial, aquatic and atmospheric environment. It involves use of principles, technology and knowledge that are acquired in fields like engineering, natural sciences and ecology. Environmental engineering also looks at public policy related to environment and the potential impact of different regulatory processes. It is an expanding field which involves latest knowledge and innovative solutions for the betterment of the environment. Sustainability is one of the main objectives of Environmental Engineering. It involves creating solutions which can protect and maintain environment for long time in balance. Sustainability is the need of the hour as it is a long-term approach towards the environmental protection and management. It requires an integrated approach of reducing use of non-renewable energy sources and restoring degraded environment. We must take into consideration two prime aspects – reducing the environmental degradation and harm caused to society.
