Essential Government Schemes: Impact and Purpose

The Indian government has launched various schemes to support people from all walks of life. These government schemes were launched with the purpose of improving the lives of the people in the country, especially the underprivileged, and effected social development.

This article examines some of the most essential and prominent government schemes, and explains their purpose and positive impacts they have had on society.

Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY)

The Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY)–also known as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (प्रधान मंत्री आवास योजना)– was launched in 2015 with the aim of providing affordable housing for all Indians, especially those in the lower income groups. Under this scheme, the government provides substantial sums of money and grants to economically weaker people for the construction of a house.

PMAY has had considerable success, and it has enabled many Indians to build their own homes. Since its launch, the scheme has provided aid to around 7 million people and directly contributed to improving the living conditions of many Indian families.

Mudra Yojana

The Mudra Yojana (मुद्रा योजना) is a scheme launched by the government in 2015 for the purpose of providing financial support to small businesses and start-ups. It provides easy access to loans and other financial help to entrepreneurs who require capital to expand their businesses.

The scheme has been successful in being able to provide financial aid to a large number of small and medium businesses. This in turn has boosted economic growth, generated new employment opportunities and helped in the overall development of the country.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojana

The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojana (बेटी बचाओ बेटी पढ़ाओ योजना) is a scheme launched by the government in 2015 to spread awareness on the importance of the welfare of girls and to ensure their safety and health. This scheme mainly works towards reducing the rate of female infanticide and encouraging gender equality.

The scheme has had positive effects towards the reduction of cases of female infanticide, and provided support to numerous girls in education. It has also been instrumental in changing the mindset of people and making them more accepting of female empowerment.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)–also known as the Jan Dhan Yojana (जन धन योजना)– is a scheme launched by the government in 2014 to promote financial inclusion in India. This scheme aimed to provide all households in the country with an account in a bank, and granted them access to various banking services.

This scheme has been lauded for its success in providing improved access to financial services for millions of people in India. It has provided the financially weaker sections of the population with the ability to access banking services, including insurance, loans, and pension schemes.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)–also known as the Ujjwala Yojana (उज्ज्वल योजना)– is a scheme launched in 2016 with the goal of providing free gas connections to lower-income households.

The scheme has been successful in providing access to clean energy to more than 70 million households across the country. It has improved the standard of living of many families, as well as increased the availability of clean energy which has had tremendous positive effects on the environment.
