What is Potential Energy?

Potential energy is an energy or potential possessed by an object due to its position or arrangement with respect to other objects. It is an energy that an object possess due to its relative position in relation to its environment and other objects around it. Potential energy can be stored or released in the form of kinetic energy.

Potential energy is classified into various types such as chemical energy, electromagnetic energy, gravity energy, and elastic energy. All of these potential energy forms can be converted into kinetic energy.

For example, when an airplane is in the air, the thrust generated by its engines is equal to the gravitational pull of the Earth and the plane remains at a constant height because of the balance between these two forces.

This is done through the use of turbines, which turn potential energy into kinetic energy, which is then used to produce electricity.
