What is Hydrogen?

Hydrogen (हाइड्रोजन) is the lightest, simplest element. It is composed of one proton and one electron and is found in the sun and stars. It is often referred to as a gas due to its highly flammable nature and highly combustible bonds. Hydrogen is abundantly found on Earth and is the most abundant element in the universe.

Properties of Hydrogen

Hydrogen is an odourless, colourless, and tasteless gas that is extremely flammable and combustible. Its melting and boiling points are characterised by extremely high temperatures (−259.14 °C and −252.87 °C respectively). It is also monatomic, meaning it consists of one atom.

Hydrogen is one of the most inflammable substances known to man. It has an explosive range, meaning that when it is mixed with air it can cause an explosion resulting from too little or too much air mixed in with the hydrogen. While its explosiveness may prove to be unpredictable, hydrogen is relatively safe to handle.

Applications of Hydrogen

Hydrogen has many applications in various industries. Its ability to bond with other elements makes it useful in manufacturing. It is used in the production of fertilisers, explosives, and lubricants. In addition, hydrogen is often used in the petrochemical and refinery industries as a fuel source.

In the medical industry, hydrogen is used for various purposes. For example, it is used to create hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which is a powerful disinfectant. It is also used to produce glass, pharmaceuticals, food, and even electricity.

Hydrogen is becoming increasingly popular in the automotive industry as well. Some car companies are using hydrogen-powered fuel cells to power their vehicles instead of gasoline. Hydrogen fuel cells produce energy by combining hydrogen and oxygen together to form electricity. This electricity is then used to power the car.
