WWW vs Internet: Unraveling the Digital Differences

Do you ever get confused when people talk about the Internet and WWW (World Wide Web)? Are they the same thing? The answer is no, and we’re here to help unravel the digital difference and make it easier to understand.

The Internet and WWW are related but quite different from one another. The Internet is like a network of highways while WWW is like a single car on that highway. Both are helpful to get to get from one point to another in the cyberspace, but they have many distinctions.

What is the Internet?

Simply put, the Internet (इंटरनेट) is the backbone of the World Wide Web. It is the vast connection of networks that enables us to do all sorts of tasks online. Without it, we wouldn’t have access to the web, email, social media, online streaming platforms, and beyond.

The Internet has been around since the experimental days of the 1960s. It grew slowly as computer and telecommunications technology advanced in the early days but gained massive popularity in the mid-90s after the World Wide Web was mutually created.

From that moment onward, the use of the Internet has only grown and accelerated.

What is the World Wide Web?

The World Wide Web (WWW or वर्ड वाइड वेब) is a collection of millions of websites along with the information and resources they contain. It’s like a massive library of knowledge and data available to anyone with Internet access.

It was created in March 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee who worked at a research facility in Switzerland called CERN. Berners-Lee’s objective was to give the public access to information that the international facility had been collecting.

The World Wide Web was created as an accessible platform for people to find and view information from anywhere in the world.

The Difference

Now that we understand what both the Internet and WWW are, how do they compare and differ?

The Internet is an essential component for WWW since the web cannot exist without it. Think of the Internet as the highway and WWW as one of the cars that’s traveling down the highway.

Another way to look at it is through the comparison to a library. The Internet is the building itself, and the WWW is the books you can find inside the building. Websites are like the individual books with information.

Our Final Word

In a nutshell, the Internet is the infrastructure that makes the use of WWW possible. WWW is the World Wide Web where we access data and information through websites.

It’s an incredibly complex world out there when it comes to digital technology. The journey of becoming an expert may seem daunting, but there are lots of helpful resources online. It’s best to start with the basics and build from there.

We hope our simple explanation was able to shed light on the digital differences between the Internet and WWW.
